    Dopo essersi laureata alla Hartford Art School, Università di Hartford nel 1980, Annette Lemieux (Norfolk, VA, 1957) si trasferisce a New York, dove prende parte alla fiorente scena artistica locale.
    Fin dagli esordi, ha dedicato la sua vita a una forma d'arte che si avvale di varie tecniche, quali: pittura, scultura, fotografia e installazioni di medie e grandi dimensioni. Le sue opere sono caratterizzate dall'uso di immagini e oggetti preesistenti: elementi apparentemente distanti tra loro che l'artista combina e assembla sapientemente per creare nuovi e inaspettati significati e suggestioni. La sua arte consiste quindi in fotografie in bianco e nero o cornici e scene di film degli anni Cinquanta accanto a oggetti quotidiani o storici, tra i più frequenti troviamo quelli appartenenti al periodo della guerra. A questi elementi presi dal mondo reale, l'artista aggiunge alcuni frammenti della storia del suo paese e della sua storia personale. Così che la sua esperienza intima e personale si fonde con quella storica e culturale.
    Le sue opere sono state esposte nelle mostre della Biennale di Whitney del 1987 e del 2000 al Whitney Museum of American Art e nel 1990 nella sezione "Open" della Biennale di Venezia. Le sue opere sono anche ospitate nelle collezioni permanenti di diversi musei d'arte, tra cui il Museum of Modern Art, il Metropolitan Museum of Art, il Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum e il Whitney Museum of American Art di New York, il Victoria & Albert Museum di Londra, il Walker Art Center di Minneapolis, la Yale University Art Gallery di New Haven, la New York Public Library, il Museum of Contemporary Art di Chicago, il Museum of Fine Arts di Boston, oltre che in molti altri musei di tutto il mondo dove ha partecipato a mostre personali o collettive. Ha inoltre ricevuto premi e borse di studio dal National Endowment for the Arts, dal Mies van der Rohe Stipendium del Kaiser Wilhelm Museum e dalla Pollock-Krasner Foundation. Nel 2009 ha ricevuto un dottorato ad honorem in Belle Arti dal Montserrat College of Art.

    Attualmente insegna all'Università di Harvard. Vive e lavora a Boston.
